Background
Asenapine maleate is an atypical antipsychotic used in the treatment of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. It has very low oral bioavailability due to extensive first pass metabolism. Sublingually administered asenapine maleate has bioavailability of 30%, but causes sublingual adverse reactions.Purpose
