FIP World List
of Pharmacy Schools

FIP, as the global leader for pharmacy, has taken the initiative to build the “FIP World List of Pharmacy Schools”, which will be the most comprehensive and up-to-date list of pharmacy institutions from around the world. This global list is intended to guide all pharmacy stakeholders, from students to policymakers, in assessing the appropriateness and effectiveness of pharmacy education strategies. The availability, completeness and quality of FIP’s World List of Pharmacy Schools means it will provide a unique source of information for pharmaceutical workforce policies, procedures and plans.

Further background on the FIP World List of Pharmacy Schools:

The FIP World List of Pharmacy Schools is an initiative to monitor pharmaceutical capacity and capability, similar to those of many other global organisations, such as the World Medical Schools List held by the World Medical Association. Given 2021 is the World Health Organization’s Year of Health and Care Workers, the need for our global organisations to demonstrate increased capacity in all health workers is key to ensure our professions are not further diminished but amplified.

FIP is a founder member of the World Health Professions Alliance (WHPA) with doctors, nurses, dentists, and physiotherapists. All WHPA members have been requested to feedback their schools’ status to the WHO as part of pandemic preparedness, and FIP having a list of accredited pharmacy schools will help to identify where schools may be needed and created to ensure long-term pharmaceutical workforce capacity.

Andalas University’s Faculty of Pharmacy is occupying a prominent role in nurturing future professionals for the pharmaceutical industry in Indonesia. The faculty’s strength in ensuring industry relevancy draws upon the expertise of its highly qualified staff and a long-standing tradition of academic excellence. The latter is built on a well-designed curriculum which seeks to implement the latest discovery in science as well as showcase and explore the untapped potential of local medicinal plants. Andalas University’s Faculty of Pharmacy offers three study programs: undergraduate and post-graduate studies in pharmacy and a professional course in apothecary. Furthermore, the pharmacy program consists of four sections, namely Biological Pharmacy or Pharmacognosy, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Technology, and Pharmacology and Clinical Pharmacy. To support the knowledge-learning process and research endeavors in this field, an array of facilities is made available, including microbiological pharmacy, serology, pharmacognosy and clinical biochemistry laboratories. Furthermore, the faculty’s reputation as a center of knowledge serving the advancement of pharmaceutical sciences has been amplified by having undertaken a long list of international collaborations. Examples of effective partnerships include joint research projects carried out with an array of notable universities, including the University of Western Perth and Melbourne University from Australia, the University of Rennes 1 from France and Tokushima Bunri University from Japan. Research at the Faculty of Pharmacy has particularly focused on medicinal plant chemistry; delving into topics such as the isolation and structure elucidation of novel compounds from indigenous Sumatran plants. The faculty is also actively working with Indonesia’s Ministry of Health in standardizing the country’s medicinal plants. Please visit our university web at https://ffarmasi.unand.ac.id
